DAY 01    ARRIVAL – LUANG PRABANG                        D
    Arrive in LuangPrabang, transfer to your hotel for check-in
First discovery of this unique UNESCO heritage town, if time permits, on foot
Climb up to Phousi Hill for sunset. Enjoy the unique view over the city and its surroundings

DAY 02    LUANG PRABANG VISIT                             B-L-D
Breakfast at your hotel
Pick up from hotel and visit the main highlights of LuangPrabang: Vat Vixoun, Vat Maha, Vat Mai, Vat Xieng Thong, the most beautiful temple of LuangPrabang, dating back from the 16th Century
Lunch at a local restaurant
Afternoon visit of the Royal Palace Museum, housing the most important treasures of Laos’ recent past. Continue to Vat Sene. See the diverse local crafts sold on the Hmong market in the early evening

DAY 03    LUNG PRABANG – PAK OU – NONG KHIAW ‘’ BY BOAT ‘’            B-L-D
Breakfast at your hotel
Transfer to the local pier of LuangPrabang and board a traditional boat. Cruise upstream on the Mekong River and visit the sacred Buddha caves, Tham Ting and ThamPhoum housing hundreds of Buddha statues.
Lunch at Suan Pak Ou Restaurant (Lao food)
Continue by boat up the Nam Ou River. The longest river of northern Laos passes through a fantastic karst scenery. Watch the local villagers fishing and picking river grass. Arrive in NongKhiaw in the late afternoon

DAY 04        NONG KHIAW - MUNG NGOI KAO ‘’ DAY-TREK BY ‘’                  B-L-D
Breakfast at your hotel
    Embark on a traditional boat to MuangNgoi Kao, 1 hour upstream. Meet the local Trekking guide at 9:00am and begin trekking 30 minutes to visit Tham Kang, the former sheltering cave for local villager during Indochina war (1960-1972). It is located in beautiful surroundings
Continue your walk to Ban Houay Bo (a village of Khmu and Tai Deng village), where we will eat lunch at a villagers’ home. Then continue your trekking to Ban Na (a village of Tai Deng ethnic group). After studying the local people’s work and living conditions, we return to MuangNgoi Kao and then to NongKhiaw by boat

Breakfast at your hotel
Early start by car towards Oudomxai passing a mountainous landscape with mainly Hmong and Khmu villages. Arrive in Oudomxai and climb That Phouxay overlooking the city and surroundings
Lunch at a local restaurant
The region further north gets more and more mountainous with Hmong villages built along the crests. Stop on the way to visit villages. Arrive in LuangNamtha in the early evening and check in at the Boat Landing Guesthouse

DAY 06        LUANG NAMTHA - FULL DAY                         B-L-D
         Approx. JUNE-DEC, depending on water level

        Boat trip on the Nam Tha River by green discovery

Breakfast at your hotel
Cruise down on Nam Tha River by long tail motor boat for about 2 hours and explore the daily life of different minorities. Your guide will explain you the customs of each minority. Visit a Khmu tribe and Sop Dud village (Lanten tribe)

Alternative trip by car

Take the car to Tad Nam Di – a small waterfall in the north of LuangNamtha. It is named after Ban Nam Di, the neighboring Lanten Village where people still live in a very traditional way; women make indigo, spinning and dying cotton. Bamboo paper is also made. The waterfall is a short walk away
After visiting the Lanten village, head south by car to join the new road to HouaiXai, before continuing a small dust road to Nale.Nale is an old Khmu settlement and district capital located on the Nam Tha River. This adventurous road is only passable during the dry season
You will come through some remote forested areas passing small Khmu villages. Nale is about 2 hours drive from LuangNamtha

Return to LuangNamtha in the late afternoon
Dinner and accommodation at your hotel

After breakfast, visit the colorful market of LuangNamtha.
Continue on the newly built road No. 3 through beautiful sceneries of mountains, villages and rice fields. Stop in ViengPhoukha for lunch. The ancient Khmu settlement ViengPhoukha has a tourism office showing the numerous ethnic groups of the region.


Arrive in HouaiXai in time to cross over the Mekong River, which forms the Lao-Thai border. Your Thai guide will welcome you in Chiang Khong after immigration
